Major Achievement
Service Provision -
Between July 2007 to December 2009 , 4,019 women received 15,481 abortion related services ofwhich 3,366 were surgical abortion and 100 were medical abortion. The proportion of clients receiving post abortion counselling increased from 97% 99% . Additionally 85% of the abortion clients adopted post abortion contraceptive method and acceptance of long term methods increased 7% to 18%. The proportion of clients followed up after receiving an abortion services in the clinic increased from 39% to 60% during July 2007 to December 2009.
An assessment of Clinical Management Information System (CMIS), piloted in the Palpa and Kathmandu clinics, was undertaken by IPPF CO consultants and SARO in April 2009. The clinics had achieved tremendous success where by manual clients files were systematically organized, client records were updated electronically and the require reports were produced efficiently. Following the successful completion of pilot phase expansion phase have been put in place. The system was introduced to Kailali,Kanchanpur, Sarlahi and Ilam in 2009 and 2010.At present CMIS is under operation in FPAN central clinic,Palpa clinic, Kailali clinic,Kanchanpur clinic, Sarlahi clinic and Ilam clinic.

Advocacy
As a result of FPAN's GCAC Project continued advocacy efforts on increasing access to Medical abortion, the Government approved all FPAN clinics that currently provide MVA Services to introduce medical abortion into their overall service package.By the end of 2010, FPAN expects medical abortion services to be provided through 21 sites FPAN GCAC project continued to lobby the government to expand access to second trimester abortion services. As a result 12 government hospitals received approval to provide second trimester abortion services at the end of 2009.FPAN will work closely with these public hospitals to establish a strong referral system.

In collaboration with Marie Stopes, FPAN has been advocating for the approval of mid- level providers to perform CAC services.As government staff nurse have already been certified. It is anticipated that FPAN nurses have been approved for training and subsequent service from end of 2010.
